June 15th. Vaughan did about fifteen miles today. He started in Wadebridge and wended his way out of the South of Wadebridge towards St Breock Downs among all the wind turbines. At St Wenn he popped into a lovely village church and when he came out, while looking at his map a Cornish voice said ‘be you lost me handsome’. Who should it be but his old friend of forty years or more Keith with wife Bonnie. Vaughan met Keith when they both served on Ark Royal. They kidnapped him and took him off to St Columb Major for lunch. He had a very nice roast lamb washed down with a couple of pints of good Cornish ale.
By mid afternoon after he had climbed up to Castle-an-Dinas, an ancient hill fort, Vaughan was feeling a bit hot and sticky, well it was a lovely day, but made it safely into Summercourt. His only moan today is about the footpaths or lack of them. They are on the map but seem to be constantly blocked by barbed wire and electric fences. His joy of the day was seeing a steam traction engine climbing a hill with a huge line of cars behind it.
At the end of the day Martin and Katy picked him up and took all of them to a B&B they had found in Truro. Vaughan is looking forward to Wednesday and when quizzed admitted that he expects to arrive at Lands End between twelve and twelve-thirty and all are welcome to go to Lands End to applaud him in.
