Oswestry is an ancient town near the English, Welsh border. The market place
dates back to 1190. What many people do not realise is that it also has a
hospital that houses a specialist spinal. Founded in 1965 it has treated
over 4000 patients. It offers a wide range of services including:
- Diagnosis
- Surgical and non surgical treatment of injury and multi-system impairment
- Rehabilitation of inpatients
- Follow up care for life
- Health promotion and education of patients and carers
- Assessment of patient requirements for appliances (seating and walking devices)
- Aftercare service
The centre is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence.
The bald facts do not, however, adequately describe how important they are in the lives of their patients. Arthur Williams was transferred to Oswestry in February 2007. Arthur was still very ill Mr Wagih Shafik El Masry FRCS (Ed), FRCP Lon and his team slowly put Arthur back together. They did not concentrate on his physical wellbeing to the exclusion of his mental health. With great care and kindness the team supported Arthur through a very difficult time.
They need to upgrade their operating theatre equipment and part of the money from Vaughan’s walk will go toward this.
